The CENTRAL ONTARIO GARDEN RAILWAY ASSOCIATION ( COGRA ) was
formed in 1990 as a loose affiliation of people with interest in building and
operating garden railways. All range of skils (from novice to expert), as well as
all scales and gauges of model trains are welcome. Members run all types of
locomotives, from live steam, electric through the rails, battery powered and
clockwork. The aim is to strive for overall railway atmosphere with model
buildings, model structures and miniature landscaping, by following the "Ten
Foot Rule"- " If it looks good from ten feet away, it looks fine."
Structure of the Organization
The structure of COGRA is highly informal. As a group of model railroaders, we
are interested in creating garden rail railroads and running trains without
forming an elaborate club bureaucracies. Family involvement in the activities
of our Association is actively encouraged. Although COGRA is based in the
Central Region of Ontario Canada, our membership stretches over a large area
of Ontario, northern New York State and we have members from around the
world. New members are always warmly welcomed.
Our meets are held in member's garden railways on weekends from early
spring to late falls. Members are encouraged to bring their trains to run on
fellow member's railways. In the late fall COGRA holds a day long annual indoor
meet. This event includes a business meeting, lunch, clinics, door prize draw,
train races and other rail related activities.
